I’ve been duped. Apparently all the base training the last couple months wasn’t actually necessary. Coach Brad sent an email today informing us that:
“If you feel like you are not up to the rest of the group, nonsense; if you haven’t been keeping up with your workouts (yet) you are OK. Having said that, now is the time to get going.”
Well holy hell. So I didn’t actually HAVE to be keeping up with my workouts?
Buuuuuuuut I think they were probably advisable, and I’m proud that I have pretty much done 5 out of 6 of the scheduled workouts every week for the last 2 months. Not bad! And that doesn’t even include the 3x/week Easy Fitness workouts I had also been doing. It’s a far better track record than any of my past seasons, believe you me.
It’s been a lot of working out…and yet, no weight loss in 3 weeks. SUPERLAME!
But I’m not behind in that either. Even if I don’t win the Biggest Loser contest that I weigh in for Friday, I have lost through the holidays, which is more than most people can say. I’m proud of my progress, even if it’s slow as damn molasses. Aw, who am I kidding…I really would prefer faster weight loss and that $600 prize pot. I can’t lie to you!!! The good news is that T.O.M. came to visit yesterday and I’m hoping that he takes away a few extra pounds when he leaves.
3 days to go. Or is it 2?
2012 Kicks Off!
I just got home from my 1ST PRACTICE OF 2012! Don’t believe those who might say it was the second practice. The New Year’s Day ride was “unofficial”, dammit! I planned to go and start my year out right, I really did. But my plan to be in bed by 1 a.m. went awry after New Years didn’t totally end up being a horrible overrated waste of time. It actually was fun. In addition to the multiple cocktails fun, New Years included a cab shortage in Santa Monica, walking too many blocks in 4-inch heels, a quick hitchhike home, then waiting for an hour for a cab to pick up my friend from MY apartment. By 3 a.m., the idea of a 9 a.m. bike ride had faded further and further into the recesses of my brain. I did get out of bed briefly at 8 a.m., but when the world immediately tilted, I decided that trying to balance on a 2-wheel vehicle up Pacific Coast Highway wasn’t the best idea.
So let’s call tonight the first official workout of 2012. I’ve done 100% of the workouts this year! Amazing! Ooooh, Aaahhhh. But it was a swim. Wop wop. Aside from that 60 minutes in the middle, it was a really great practice.
In 3 days, phase I (Easy Fitness/Base Training) of the 2011-12 season of The Athena Project will officially move into Phase II (Half-Ironman Training/De-Athena). Most of my workouts will revolve around the training schedule set out by our coaches. It generally looks like this:
Monday: Off day
Tuesday: Team Swim
Wednesday: Bike or Run
Thursday: Bike or Run/Stability drills
Friday: Swim
Saturday: Team Practice
Sunday: Informal Team Practice
Seems like it will be a short hop, skip, and a jump swim, bike, and run from TriFathlete to Triathlete, doesn’t it?
But as the overweight endurance athletes before me, as well as what we have learned from The Athena Project of the past, things aren’t always as simple as they seem………
