Last week, I had so many thoughts on my brain, they all canceled each other out and I didn’t write much at all. But today…TODAY I wrote a pretty darn good blog entry, if I do say so myself. So instead of some big intro to my review of last week, just gonna dive into it so I can get to bed and get some shuteye before my 6:30 a.m. swim tomorrow a.m.
Week of 1.11.10
IT WAS A GOOD WEEK FOR:
Visual representations: Bought myself a new calendar on the 50% off rack at Borders. I needed something that would be fun and visually stimulating…you know, so I remember to cross off each day of training. $6 bought me THIS gem:
Because of my new calendar, I know that there are 103 days left to Wildflower Long. Tomorrow I will check it again and there will be 102 days left.
Rolling with the punches: Learned that just because you putting something in your calendar in PEN doesn’t mean anything. Lots of shifts occurred all week, but with some flexibility and creativity, I got every single workout in – 7 in total over 5 days (2 rest days). Swapped one swim for a run, but other than that, I was right on target.
Shoes dropping: This week was pretty light. Lighter even than week one. I walked around all week wondering when the sh*t was going to hit the fan. Well let me tell you, it’s this coming week. This training is about to start getting very very real.
IT WAS A BAD WEEK FOR:
Fashion Sense: Last Monday, I showed up for the mini-bike trainer tutorial in my work clothes. That day it happened to be a wool grey skirt. It just didn’t occur to me that I might actually be getting ON the bike. I was told I looked like and Amish school-marm. But I bet Amish school marm’s wouldn’t pair that skirt with bike shoes and hop on a bike trainer. But we now know why we don’t race tri’s in long gray wool skirts.
Saturday for the long bike ride, I wore my diaper bike shorts, instead of my usual and less bulky tri shorts (smaller pad). Post-ride, I threw on some UG’s for breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien. UG’s + Bike shorts = “Don’t” But dammit, it feels really good to put your feet in nice fuzziness after pedaling for 90 minutes.
Leading by Example: Shots with Coach at El Cholo Happy Hour on Friday night. ‘nuf said.
Containment: My cups still runneth (more) over (than usual). Imagine duct-taping 2 small hand weights to your chest and then trying to run….that’s about what it feels like right now and it is not fun. Sleek and aerodynamic I am not. On the other hand, they’re real…and they’re spectacular.
